Acting President Martha Asselin, Ph.D.

The State University of New York Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Dr. Martha Asselin as acting president of Schenectady County Community College (SCCC), effective March 5, 2014, as previously approved by the SCCC Board of Trustees.

“As a long-time member of the Schenectady County Community College family and a higher education professional for decades, Dr. Asselin is an ideal candidate to lead the campus while the search for a permanent president continues,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher.

About Martha Asselin, Ph.D.
Acting President Martha Asselin, Ph.D., has served Schenectady County Community College since 1990 and has more than 30 years of professional experience in higher education overall. She has had a diverse career with progressive increases in position and level of responsibilities, including her concurrent position of Vice President of Student Affairs.

Dr. Asselin has been the recipient of the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service (1994) and she is a graduate of the State University of New York’s Executive Leadership Institute and Training (2012). In addition, Dr. Asselin is active in her profession through professional affiliations and memberships, her campus through committee memberships and activities, and her community through her board work.

Dr. Asselin received her Doctorate and Master’s degrees, both in Educational Administration and Policy Studies, from the University at Albany, and her Bachelor of Science degree, with majors in Psychology and Sociology, from SUNY Oswego.

Her appointment is effective for 12 months or until the Board of Trustees appoints a successor.
