Continuing Education Includes Credit Courses

picture of students Continuing Education means different things to different people. The first thought is generally, "adult education" or "non-credit" courses, but at SCCC, Continuing Education also means traditional "credit" courses. The Continuing Education Credit program extends the academic day to accommodate the various needs of our busy students. It means administering an evening and Saturday schedule in the fall and spring, and both day and evening schedules in the summer. It means taking the extra steps to provide non-traditional access for students to develop themselves professionally and to have the opportunity to complete their degrees.

Continuing Education means collaboration. On any given evening, over 800 students participate in classes and activities. To meet the needs of these students, over forty full-time faculty come back in the evening to teach a course. They offer experience, dedication and consistency to the Continuing Education Schedule. They are joined by approximately ninety part-time instructors who bring the practical experience of their regular professions and an enthusiasm for teaching to enrich our classrooms.

Through the Division of Continuing Education, classes take place on campus - we are looking forward to moving into the new Stockade Building this Spring with six new fully computerized classrooms. Classes also take place off campus, at places such as the Family Investment Center, Maritime Center and local high schools. Classes also take place via the Internet, with online courses through the SUNY Learning Network. Faculty and Staff are always looking for ways to expand and improve offerings. In response to student requests, in January 2001 we offered a three-week, Early Spring Session, to help students get an early start on the regular Spring Semester. Over all the Session was a success and will be back in 2002 with additional offerings.
