The Dean's Corner

Welcome to the new Continuing Education newsletter, Stone Soup. Developed in response to a Middle States recommendation that Continuing Education create a mechanism to communicate with the community, this new electronic publication will be published quarterly, and it will contain information about our staff and programs.

We have taken the name for this newsletter from the old fairy tale which shows that many people can bring individual elements together to create something that benefits all. Because of our very nature, the Continuing Education Division brings together credit, non-credit, distance learning, off-campus courses, business & industry training, and community services courses to offer diverse opportunities to the citizens of the capital region.

This newsletter is the first of its kind among the SUNY community colleges because (1) it is not a print document but, instead, is an electronic document; (2) it is full color and can include photos and video clips; and (3) readers can subscribe and unsubscribe to it automatically via the SCCC web page. Furthermore, the reader receives the newsletter within minutes of its preparation. Thus, there is no delay while the document is being printed and mailed, and the news is current.

We hope you enjoy this newsletter's electronic format and will give us suggestions about ways that we can improve it for readers in the general community.
