Courses At SCCC

 

PuzzleSchenectady County Community College (SCCC) offers its students and the community the opportunity for professional development or personal enhancement through the Division of Continuing Education's Non-Credit schedule. Students are offered a variety of non-credit courses in areas such as Computer Technology, Children's Courses, Music, Recreation, English as a Second Language, and General Interest.


Computer Courses
This coming Summer semester, non-credit will offer a selection of introductory and advanced computer courses for students just learning how to operate and navigate the personal computer or looking to program web pages.

These courses instruct students on the proper ways to maneuver, customize, and control the computer and surf the Internet.



Children's Courses

SCCC is pleased to offer a variety of courses for children this spring.

Chef- Professional Baking for Children - Join Chef Gail and learn to make such delicacies as checkerboard cake with chocolate frosting, cream puffs, mixed verry shortcakes, croissants, blueberry streusel cake, apple galletts, and much more. (ages 10-13)

- Professional Baking for Teens - Students ages 14-17 will learn to bake advaned breads and pastries such as strawberry cheesecake, double chocolate scones, peach turnovers, eclairs, focaccia, dinner rolls, black forest cake, and much more.

Theater Masks- Musical Theater Workshop for Children - Students will rehearse and perform the musical play Dr. Jeckyll, Please Don't Hyde.

Piano- Beginning Piano - Students will have the opportunity to learn to play the piano.

- Voice for Children - Students will have the opportunity to learn proper singing techniques and vocal independenceRed Cross.

- American Red Cross Babysitting - Students will learn babysitting responsibilities, accident prevention, how to respond in an emergency, and much more. Students will receive American Red Cross certification.

- Hands-on Archaeology - Students will have the opportunity to experience what daily colonial life was like at the historic Mabee Farm. They will use archaeological methods and tools in a dig.

Badge- CSI:Schenectady - Students will learn about a full range of law enforcement activities from the time a crime is committed through the time a case is closed.



GED Prep

GED DiplomaIn response to a growing need in the community, the Division of Continuing Education will continue offering a GED Prep program this Summer 2006 semester. The emphasis will be on assisting students to build their basic reading, writing, and mathematic skills in order to ultimately pass the GED exam.



General Interest

Other new and exciting courses next semester include "Creative Mixology,""Defensive Driving," "Introduction to Rock Climbing," for the adventurous at heart, "English as a Second Language," for students who would like to work on their English writing and speaking skills, and Horse"Introduction to English Horseback Riding," for students who would like to learn proper English Riding technique. Also, we will be offering "Decadent Baths" "Lotions and Potions," and "Beginning and Advanced Bead Stringing."
