Welcome to the Winter 2008 Edition of Stone Soup.

| New Culinary Arts Program Begins

Thanks to Professor Toby Strianese, Chair of the Department of Hotel, Culinary Arts, and Tourism, Continuing Education is partnering with Albany County and The Altamont Program, Inc., to offer a special culinary program at the Schuyler Inn in Menands.

One of the questions educators consider is how to get students to invest themselves in their classes. A classroom that recognizes and supports the individual's need to both belong and contribute can lead to the formation of a community in which each student is more likely to invest.

| Touring the Capital

Denise Brucker, Coordinator of Workforce Development, was part of a group of community leaders and members of the 109th Air National Guard Unit who visited Washington, D.C. in November. They are pictured in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetary. The group flew to D.C. on a C130 Military Plane.

Non-Credit Spring Courses At SCCC

Schenectady County Community College (SCCC) offers its students and the community the opportunity for professional development or personal enhancement through the Division of Continuing Education's Non-Credit schedule. Students are offered a variety of non-credit courses in areas such as Computer Technology, Children's Courses, Music, Recreation, English as a Second Language, and General Interest.

Shirley Crane has taught a variety of non-credit computer classes at SCCC over the last ten years. Her classes have always been popular and much of the popularity is due to Shirley's love of teaching and knowledge of computers, particulary digital photography.

| SCCC offers Non-Credit Courses at the Beltrone Living Center

In the Spring of 2007 Schenectady County Community College (SCCC) partnered with the Colonie Senior Service Centers, Inc. in order to bring lifelong learning opportunities to senior citizens at the Beltrone Living Center. The courses allowed senior citizens and baby boomers to take advantage of new learning experiences without having to take actual college courses.
