Non-credit Courses Popular Summer Venue

Non-credit courses continued to be a popular venue during the summer term. This summer we served 209 students in 19 non-credit courses: 86 students in Children's courses, 27 students in Computer courses, 43 students in General courses, and 53 students in Tier GED.

Of special note, interest in courses for children appears to be growing. The two most popular courses were Professional Baking for Kids and Hands On Archaeology.

Last summer, we ran 2 sections of the "Baking Camp," but due to demand, this year we increased the number to 5 sections and served 59 children. Many of the students in the baking course had taken other non-credit cooking courses with Chef Gail Sokol during the regular academic year.

New this year, the Hands On Archaeology course enrolled 12 students, Mabee Farmthe maximum it could hold as a fieldwork course. Held at the Mabee Farm and taught by well-known local archaeologist Louise Basa, this course was the subject of a lengthy article featuring color photographs in the Daily Gazette.
