Courses At SCCC

 

PuzzleSchenectady County Community College (SCCC) offers its students and the community the opportunity for professional development or personal enhancement through the Division of Continuing Education's Non-Credit schedule. Students are offered a variety of non-credit courses in areas such as Computer Technology, Children's Courses, Music, Recreation, English as a Second Language, and General Interest.


Computer Courses
This coming Spring semester, non-credit will offer a selection of introductory and advanced computer courses for students just learning how to operate and navigate the personal computer or looking to program web pages.

These courses instruct students on the proper ways to maneuver, customize, and control the computer and surf the Internet.



Children's Courses

SCCC is pleased to offer a children's baking course this spring.

Chef- Professional Baking for Children - Join Chef Gail and learn to make such delicacies as healthy chinese egg rolls, chocolate chip pound cake, pulled pork wraps with apple chili sauce, apple slaw, lemon cream tarts, and orange pomegranate chicken bulgar salad with almonds and dried cherries. (ages 10-15)



GED Prep

GED DiplomaIn response to a growing need in the community, the Division of Continuing Education will continue offering a GED Prep program this Spring 2007semester. The emphasis will be on assisting students to build their basic reading, writing, and mathematic skills in order to ultimately pass the GED exam.

We will also offer a GED Prep - Adult Basic education course. Emphasis will be on assisting students with low reading and math grade levels to build their basic reading, writing and mathematic skills.



General Interest

Other new and exciting courses next semester include "Creative Mixology,""Defensive Driving," "Introduction to Rock Climbing," for the adventurous at heart, "English as a Second Language," for students who would like to work on their English writing and speaking skills, and Horse"Introduction to English Horseback Riding," for students who would like to learn proper English Riding technique. Also, we will be offering "Wilton Cake Decorating" "Bead Crocheting ," and "Beginning and Advanced Bead Stringing."

SCCC , in partnership with Modern Welding school, is proud to introduce a "Basic Welding Skills" course. Students will learn weld safety machine set up, hands on welding with Mig Process, Multi Pass Welds, etc.

Driver's EducationSCCC is also offering a Driver's Education class. This NYS Driver's Education program provides 24 hours of classroom time, 6 hours of actual driving experience, and 18 hours of in-car observation. Students must be at least 16 years of age and must have a valid NYS Lerners' Permit.
