SCCC offers Non-Credit Courses at the Beltrone Living Center



Colonie Senior Service Centers, Inc. logoIn the Spring of 2007 Schenectady County Community College (SCCC) partnered with the Colonie Senior Service Centers, Inc. in order to bring lifelong learning opportunities to senior citizens at the Beltrone Living Center. The courses allowed senior citizens and baby boomers to take advantage of new learning experiences without having to take actual college courses. Two non-credit courses, Introduction to Digital Photography and Cooking for Adults, were initially offered and met with much success.

A story about SCCC's non-credit courses being offered at the Beltrone Living Center in Colonie was included on a new program entitled "It's An Age Thing," which aired Maria Kotaryon local PBS station WMHT on June 20, 2007. The program Shirley Cranefeatured an interview with Maria Kotary (left), Associate for Continuing Education, and Shirley Crane (right) , Adjunct Faculty Member who teaches Digital Photography.

Due to the success of the program thus far, SCCC plans on Martinioffering additional courses at the Beltrone Living Center this Spring 2008 semester. Creative Mixology will be offered April 1 - May 6, Tuesday nights from 6-9 pm. This courses will instruct students on how to mix a variety of alcoholic and non-alcholic drinks. DancingLatin/Swing/Social Dancing will be offered February 6 - March 12, Wednesday nights from 6-7 pm. This course includes dances such as the Cha-cha, the Fox Trot, Swing, the Waltz, Salsa, Merengue and much more.

SCCC also plans on re-offering a Cooking for Adults course during the Summer 2008 semester.
