Courses At SCCC

 

PuzzleSchenectady County Community College (SCCC) offers its students and the community the opportunity for professional development or personal enhancement through the Division of Continuing Education's Non-Credit schedule. Students are offered a variety of non-credit courses in areas such as Computer Technology, Children's Courses, Music, Recreation, English as a Second Language, and General Interest.


Computer Courses
This coming Spring semester, non-credit will offer a selection of introductory and advanced computer courses for students just learning how to operate and navigate the personal computer or looking to program web pages.

These courses instruct students on the proper ways to maneuver, customize, and control the computer and surf the Internet.



Children's Courses

SCCC is pleased to offer a children's cooking course this spring.

Chef- Professional Cooking for Children - Join Chef Gail and learn to make such delicacies as Crispy Asian Phyllo Sticks filled with Turkey with an Apricot Dipping Sauce, Rich Chocolate Sheet Cake, Lemony Braised Chicken and Vegetables, Chocolate Chip Surprise Cookies and Healthy Vegetable Lasagna with Bechamel Sauce. Each young chef should bring an apron and wear closed toed shoes. (ages 10-15)

Piano- Beginning Piano - Students will have the opportunity to learn to play the piano.

- Voice for Children - Students will have the opportunity to learn proper singing techniques and vocal independence.



GED Prep

GED DiplomaIn response to a growing need in the community, the Division of Continuing Education will continue offering a GED Prep program this Spring 2008 semester. The emphasis will be on assisting students to build their basic reading, writing, and mathematic skills in order to ultimately pass the GED exam.

We will also offer a GED Prep - Adult Basic education course. Emphasis will be on assisting students with low reading and math grade levels to build their basic reading, writing and mathematic skills.



General Interest

Other new and exciting courses next semester include "Creative Mixology,""Defensive Driving," "Introduction to Rock Climbing," for the adventurous at heart, "English as a Second Language," for students who would like to work on their English writing and speaking skills, and Horse"Introduction to English Horseback Riding," for students who would like to learn proper English Riding technique. Also, we will be offering "Wilton Cake Decorating" and "Beginning Bead Stringing."

Driver's EducationSCCC is also offering a Driver's Education class. This NYS Driver's Education program provides 24 hours of classroom time, 6 hours of actual driving experience, and 18 hours of in-car observation. Students must be at least 16 years of age and must have a valid NYS Lerners' Permit.

Medical SymbolNew to SCCC, the American Red Cross Infant Child Saver course will teach studetns life saving skills for infants and children. Topics will include rescue breathing, First Aid for choking, CPR and First Aid for fractures, burns, wounds and bleeding emergencies.
