Early Spring Courses Popular

For the second year in a row, SCCC's Division of Continuing Education has offered a special selection of Early Spring courses. And the popularity of these courses continues to grow.

Last year, the College offered 9 courses with a total enrollment of 163. This year, 14 courses were offered and 270 students were enrolled. According the Mary Clare O'Connor, Associate for Continuing Education, "It appears that we are drawing more students from other colleges this year, as compared to last." She noted that in one course alone, 50% of the students are currently enrolled at other colleges and are taking a time-shortened course at SCCC because it fits in nicely between the Fall and Spring semesters.

big ben       Unique this year was the College's first study abroad course, Theatre in London. Professor Sandra Boynton led a group of 14 students through an aggressive schedule of lectures, theatre shows, and tours. And, yes, they had projects and assignments. The students stayed in London flats, and had access to a computer lab where they could complete assignments, as well as communicate with home via the Internet.

"Given the success of our Early Spring courses, we anticipate that they will remain a popular option into the foreseeable future," said O'Connor.
