Hi Mom, I'm in Jail!

In September, the Capital Region World Trade Center staff and tour participants had a chance to visit with one of the more unique manufacturers in the area, Maximum Security Products Corporation (MSP). Operating out of a 98,000 square foot facility in Waterford, New York, MSP designs and manufactures high quality detention products, from heavy duty doors and hinges, to electronic controls and prison furniture.

During the first part of our visit, the group learned that MSP's approach to global markets has been slow and deliberate, yet smart. "In making the decision to go global," Joe Burch, President of MSP said, "we recognized that we knew nothing about doing business internationally, and that we needed to rely on the people we knew and others in the community for their expertise in order to be successful." Joe Burch went on to tell the group that MSP is looking to make international markets a more significant portion of their sales in the next few years.

In addition to learning about MSP's business, tour participants also had a chance to check out MSP's manufacturing facility, and to get a close-up view of the components and systems that go into some of the world's finest prisons. The tour was concluded with each of us having an opportunity to "go to jail" and have our picture taken behind bars. Our intern, Gregory Lamontagne (side) was one of the first to be temporarily incarcerated. To check out who else ended up behind bars and some of what we saw on the tour, click here!
