The Tried and True and Those Brand New…

One of the major challenges for the Continuing Education Credit Division is the Recruitment and Development of New Teaching Faculty and the Retention of the Returning Faculty. People choose to teach in the Evenings at the local Community College for a variety of reasons. It has been said the best way to learn something is to teach, and we have many Ph.D. candidates from area colleges who come to share their education. Some of our instructors have fulltime jobs in the field, and in the evening, they bring their practical expertise into the classroom. Many are teachers by day, who enjoy the college experience in the evening. Some are retired from a variety of professions, who now have time to enjoy their avocation. Some serve as part time instructors until that perfect teaching position comes their way. Some wish to give back to the college and community by sharing their love of learning.

Globe and BooksAt the beginning of each term, we may have upwards of ten or twelve new instructors who join the eighty or so instructors already in the trenches as well as the full-timers from the day. That's a lot of people to chase around and many details to keep track of. Continuing Ed support staff is awesome in caring for the various needs of all of our instructors. Linda Watters, Halina Lastarza, Corinne Mc Garvey, and Ross Meo are all dedicated to providing excellent support. It is a wonder to behold as each new semester quickly approaches and then zooms by: the ready smiles, the genuine concern, and the shared effort to make Schenectady County Community College the excellent student- centered institution of learning that it is.
