Factulty Convocation

SCCC and FIC Introduce the CNA Training Program
SCCC,
the Family
Investment Center and Glendale
Nursing Home are partnering to provide a Certified
Nurses Aide Training Program. This seven-week program is offered
through a HUD grant secured by the Schenectady Municipal Housing
Authority, and includes services from Catholic
Charities and SCCC's Bridge Program, headed
by Wendy Blake in the Continuing Education Department.

Terri
Morrison To Provide Keynote Address At 2003 Excellence In International
Trade Awards Dinner
Terri
Morrison, co-author of five books, including Kiss,
Bow or Shake Hands: How to Do Business in Sixty Countries, will
appear as the keynote speaker at the 2003 International Trade Awards
Dinner hosted by the Capital
Region World Trade Center and the Global

University in the High School Program Expands
Several
new high schools are joining the ranks of those offering the College's
University in the High School courses this Fall, including
Albany High School, Scotia-Glenville High School, and
Berkshire Farms.

Non-credit
courses continued to be a popular venue during the summer term.
This summer we served 209 students
in 19 non-credit courses: 86
students in Children's courses, 27
students in Computer courses, 43
students in General courses, and 53

GED: A Success Story
Jessalynn Purcell enrolled
into the Bridge Program at Schenectady
County Community College in June of 2003. As a result of participating
in Bridge, an occupational-based program that provides comprehensive
services such as one-on-one career and employment counseling, general
education development and extensive case management services, Jessalyn
expressed an interest in entering the US Army. (continued)

Nicki Pidgeon Off on the "Great Adventure"
|
It is the thing we all are working toward: Retirement!
And Nicki opened the door to the
"great adventure" on July 19th with a surprise farewell
luncheon hosted by Continuing Education
staff and attended by more than 50 well-wishers. Unlike the
typical cake and coffee "retiree wakes" (as Nicki calls them), her
luncheon featured Italian main dishes, delicacies, and desserts
prepared by staff members.(continued)

English as a Second Language
Courses Gain Popularity
Michael
Zamora
was a professional dancer, appearing on the television show This
is My Family broadcast in Spain a few years ago. He decided
to make a change and come to the United States last year to work with
a well-known choreographer in Hollywood, California, dancing at The
Edge and The Millennium studios. His journey has led him
to SCCC, specifically the third floor of Elston Hall On Monday and
Wednesday evenings.

New Advisory Committee
Members
The
Community Services Advisory Committee
provides Continuing Education
staff with input about new initiatives, suggestions for programming,
and connections with movers and shakers in our community who help
us meet our annual goals. Committee appointments carry a 3-year
term and each year, as we bid farewell to a couple of retiring
members, we welcome their replacements with open arms. (continued)

New York State Senator,
Hillary Clinton wishes David Besozzi a bon voyage
|
David
Besozzi, adjunct History instructor, will be leaving his classroom
and family behind to spend 2 1/2 weeks in Kazakhstan, a
former Soviet republic located in Central Asia northwest of China,
as part of a prestigious exchange program through American
Councils, an international nonprofit exchange organization,
funded in part by the U.S. State Department. (continued)

Robert Farstad Wins a $10,000 Fellowship
City
of Schenectady Fire Chief and adjunct FPT Instructor, Robert
Farstad won a $10,000 Fellowship through the United
States Fire Administration.
He took part in a three week course study at the Kennedy School
of Government at Harvard University. (continued)

as the 2003 Recipient of the Henry Toll Fellowship
Richard
Rose, adjunct History Instructor, has been selected as the
2003 recipient of the Henry Toll
Fellowship through the Council of State Governments.
The
Henry
Toll Fellowship Program is the premier
leadership development program for state government officials.
