Tier GED:

A Success Story

John Brisley John Brisley was enrolled in SCCC's Bridge Program on June 19, 2003. As a high school drop out, John was referred to the Bridge program by the DSS Family Crisis Intervention Program so that he could obtain his GED and find employment. The Bridge program provided case management and job readiness training while simultaneously enrolling him in a GED class. After attending Doug MacDonald's GED program daily for more than a month, John obtained the skills necessary to take and pass the New York State High School Equivalency Exam.

DiplomaJohn was awarded his GED diploma in July of 2003. Bridge staff then began working with John to help him obtain employment. Due to the direct, one-to-one, hard work of Bridge Employment Counselor, Karen McEvoy, John was hired at the beginning of September by The Stockade Inn, a new restaurant to the Schenectady area. Since that time, John has been providing his services as both a dishwasher and a handyman. John has yet to determine his long-term goals and will continue to work with Bridge Program staff on career development and exploration.
