On-Line Courses Remain Popular

Computer ImageThe College's on-line courses - often referred to as"distance learning" courses - remain very popular as they continue their growth spiral. The College first began offering on-line courses in Fall 1998, when 6 courses drew a total of 44 students for an average class size of 7.3. This Fall, as compared to all previous Fall Semesters, a record 283 students are taking 12 courses, for an average class size of 23.5. It is anticipated that Spring 2004 will enjoy the largest enrollment in on-line courses for any semester ever.

Currently, the College boasts a total of 44 on-line courses, all prepared for delivery on the SUNY Learning Network platform. The College generally offers up to 30% of these courses per semester; however, for Spring 2004 semester a total of 19 sections are being offered. Each year, approximately five new courses are added to the College's list of on-line courses. Thus far this year, four new courses are being developed, two by adjunct faculty and two by full-time faculty. In addition, two adjunct faculty are preparing to teach courses previously developed by other faculty - a strategy which enables the College to offer multiple sections of popular courses, as well as to develop a cadre of instructors who can teach specific courses when other are not able to do so.
