Courses:

The Division of Continuing Education offers a full array of SCCC credit courses for both full- and part-time students. Our evening, weekend, and summer classes accommodate even the most demanding of student schedules. Our mission is to offer students with job, home, and other responsibilities the flexibility to pursue their educational goals. Three-credit courses usually meet one evening per week (Monday through Thursday), 6:00-8:45 PM or Saturday morning, 9-11:45 AM. Laboratory courses are taught two evenings per week (lecture one night and lab another), and 4-credit courses generally meet two evenings per week, 6:00-7:50 PM.

Approximately one-third of Continuing Education credit courses are taught by full-time SCCC instructional faculty. These professionals bring to the classroom a thorough knowledge of their academic fields and the inner workings of SCCC. The other two-thirds of our credit classes are taught by part-time faculty who are highly trained and often active practitioners in their fields of expertise. Together, our full- and part-time instructors comprise an effective and caring faculty.

The Division of Continuing Education sponsors courses at various locations throughout the community. Among the sites where evening and weekend courses have been offered are local high schools, Richmor Aviation, Schenectady Municipal Housing Authority sites, and the Maritime Center. Off-campus courses are a means of providing college level instruction at a convenient distance from students’ homes and workplaces.

Continuing Education offers alternatives to traditional course scheduling. In our summer sessions, we offer three-week, four-week and eight-week credit courses in a full range of academic areas. The varied lengths of these classes is designed to meet the educational needs of students who balance busy schedules with their desire to pursue their education.

The Division of Continuing Education facilitates, coordinates, and tracks enrollment of union members with tuition assistance benefits. Many private sector employers also provide tuition assistance. Prospective students should contact their union representatives or employer’s personnel department for more information. These programs allow recipients to upgrade their job skills, pursue their intellectual interests, and continue a path of life-long learning.

All College services are open for evening classes: Student Commons, Begley Library, Student Services, Academic Advisement Center, Academic Services, Learning Lab, and Academic Computing Lab. Tutoring and counseling are available by appointment. Some hours change with each new academic semester. Always call to check hours of operation before coming to campus!
