Computer Literacy

     SCCC's non-credit computer courses are offered days, evenings and weekends so you're sure to find a time to suit your schedule. Most courses permit 17 or fewer participants, with one student per computer. This allows personal attention from the instructor. Topics span basic computer operation to specific software applications.

     A variety of basic computer courses are offered every semester including; Introduction to the Internet, Computer Survival, Introduction to Windows XP, and introduction to Digital Photography.

    Frequently offed intermediate courses include; Access for Windows XP, Excel for Windows XP, Word for Windows XP, and Using MS Word XP Mail Merge.

     SCCC's non-credit computer courses now include; Welcome to eBay, and Maintaining Peak PC Performance.

Community Interest

     Community Interest is one of the fastest growing areas of non-credit programming. SCCC's non-credit community interest courses encompass a broad range of topics that are sure to interest you, and new courses are added each semester.

     Some new and exciting courses include;

  • "Cooking for Adults"
  • "Professional Baking for Kids "
  • "Introduction to Rock Climbing" for the adventurous at heart
  • "English as a Second Language" for students who would like to work on their English writing and speaking skills
  • "Introduction to English Horseback Riding" for students who would like to learn proper English Riding technique

    Summer only;
  • "Hands-On Archeaology" We offer a special Certificate of Proficiency in Community Archaeology
  • "CSI: Schenectady"
  • "Driving Education"

   We also offer Music courses, such as;

  • "Voice for Adults"
  • "Voice for Children"

     Always wanted to learn how to do Yoga? SCCC offers a "Beginning Yoga" course in which students can learn the relaxing practice of Yoga.

     If you are interested in a special topic that we don't currently offer, contact our office and ask us to consider developing a course to meet your needs.

GED Preparation

     Get your General Equivalency Diploma! SCCC offers comprehensive GED preparatory classes that include small group and indvidual instructional components. 83% of our students pass the GED test on their first attempt! You must be at least 17 years of age to register. Students with reading levels below grade 6 and math skills below grade 5 may be referred to our GED Adult Basic Education. Workbook fees are additional. Daytime sessions run Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 12:30 pm for 6 weeks. SCCC also offers an evening GED session that runs the length of the semester, Monday and Wednesdays 5-8 pm. A new summer session meets XXXXX Monday through Thursday.

Community Partnership Programs

     The Office of Continuing Education regularly collaborates with other education providers and service agencies in the community to develop programs of special benefit to the residents of Schenectady County. Examples of these partnership programs include:

  • Trout Umlimited

CERTIFICATE OF EMPLOYABILITY

     
The Certificate of Employability (COE) prepares students to enter the workforce by teaching them the soft skills most sought in new employees by local employers. The Certificate is currently recognized by over 20 loca employers, and that number is steadily increasing. The COE is offered in partnership with the Chamber of Schenectady, the County's seven local school districts, and the Schenectady Job Training Agency.
