AST 123(3-0-3) Exploring Space This course introduces students to the space exploration from ancient myths and dreams to present fulfillment in the reality of unmanned and manned missions to the heavens. The instruments of astronomy such as telescopes, rockets, orbiting observatories, and robotic explorers are highlighted in detail during this course. Manned missions from Mercury through Apollo, to current shuttle/MIR missions are analyzed as to their scientific objectives, technology, practical benefits, and political importance to the human experience in space.
