GER 121(3-0-3)
Elementary German I

The first half of the one-year sequence in elementary German, this course introduces students to the German sound system and grammatical structure to provide a basic understanding of and ability to use the language. Students' language skills are enhanced by an understanding of German culture and customs and by the requirement of a minimum of five hours of additional work in the language laboratory per term. The course is designed for beginners or students with fewer than two years of high school German.

Elementary German II

A continuation of Elementary German I, this course introduces the student to the more complicated elements of German grammar and concentrates on the refinement of the student's basic communication skills. Classroom instruction also gives the student an awareness of German customs and culture. A minimum of five hours of additional work in the language laboratory is required per term.
PR: GER 121 or permission of the instructor

GER 222(3-0-3)
Intermediate German I

This course provides an extensive review of German grammar and concentrates on helping students improve their vocabulary, conversational fluency and reading skills through the discussion of selected readings in German. Classroom discussions on the readings and German culture are held primarily in German. A minimum of five hours of additional work in the language laboratory is required per term.

GER 224(3-0-3)
Intermediate German II

A continuation of Intermediate German I, this course completes a review of German grammar and provides more reading of German literature work. Classroom discussions in German are held on the readings and on German customs and culture. A minimum of five hours of additional work in the language laboratory is required per term.
