Issues in Abnormal Psychology
An intensive course that explores controversial issues in abnormal psychology. The student is required to read and interrelate material from a wide variety of sources such as lay media, classic works in the field, and publications by critics of the mental health concept. Topics include methodology of the social sciences, historical and cultural perspectives in abnormal behavior, the development of the diagnostic system in the U.S., interventions to improve mental health and their effectiveness, legal issues, and the role of the mental health system within American society.
