Foundations of Education

This course introduces students to the major issues and trends associated with public education and teaching in contemporary society. Students investigate the philosophical, historical, and sociological foundations of schooling and explore a variety of theories and practices. Major issues include school law, governance, career options, ethics, and equality. The course may be taken as a social science elective but is intended primarily for seniors in the Teacher Education Transfer program. Students will be expected to spend a minimum of ten hours in an educational setting within the community.
