The Learning Center in 523 Elston Hall offers the following workshops to all students; no prior sign-up is necessary:

Classroom Note Taking

This workshop teaches a system to identify and record main ideas and important details during class, and a strategy for storing the information in long-term memory after class. Handouts provided.

Reducing Math Anxiety

This workshop helps students learn how to overcome faulty assumptions, avoid negative self-talk, and use strategies to conquer this common anxiety. Handouts provided.

Strategies for Textbook Reading

This workshop shows students how to identify the most important information in a textbook, what to underline (and how much) and how to write meaningful margin notes. Handouts provided.

Test-Taking Strategies

This workshop reviews test taking strategies for multiple choice and true-false questions, short answer questions, and essays. Learn what to do before, during, and after the test.

The following workshops are offered on an individualized tutorial basis. Appointments can be arranged at the Learning Center, or by phoning the Coordinator at (518) 381-1246. One-on-one tutorials are available Monday through Friday, from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Informational handouts are also available on all topics on a walk-in basis.
