As a cross-disciplinary department, SCCC's Humanities
and Social Sciences Department offers courses in various fields
of both the
Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as other courses related
to these academic areas. The Humanities and Social Sciences courses
serve to provide part of the Liberal
Arts core for programs in other departments, in addition to
structuring three kinds of programs the department offers:
transfer
degree programs that serve as the first two years of
baccalaureate programs, and that are accepted at four-year colleges
and universities;
career degree
and certificate
programs that are designed to enable students to enter
the workplace immediately after graduation; and
The instructional technology with which the department
supports its courses include:
A
language laboratory, located in 520 Elston Hall, which
contains 25 audio lab carrels, 25 computers, and newspapers and
magazines in various languages.
The lab is open during various
daytime and evening hours, Monday through Saturday.
Computerized classrooms for writing courses.
Distance
learning technology for certain courses via the SUNY Learning
Network.
The Humanities and Social Sciences Department also administers the
Gateway Montessori Preschool in conjunction with its Early Childhood programs.
