Course Description:

Course Objectives: This course is designed to enable the student to carry out algebraic operations, to develop a basic understanding of algebraic concepts and apply these concepts to problem solving.

2Real numbers: Introduction to algebra; properties of real numbers; operations with real numbers; exponential notation and order of operations.
8Solving equations and inequalities: Solving equations; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division principles; formulas; applications and problem solving; applications of percent; solving inequalities; applications and problem solving with inequalities.
8Graphs of linear equations: The rectangular coordinate system; graphs of straight lines by point plotting; graphs and intercepts; applications.
10Polynomials and factoring: Exponents; addition and subtraction of polynomials; multiplication of polynomials; division of polynomials; negative exponents; common factors; factoring quadratic expressions; special factoring rules; solving equations by factoring.
11Rational expressions and equations: Multiplication and division of rational expressions; addition and subtraction of rational expressions; complex fractions; equations involving fractions; literal equations; applications and formulas.
