Habitat:  Humans are primary reservoir.

Pathogenicity:  Not virulent unless "activated" by a virus. Causes diptheria which may be fatal. Swelling in the neck with the formation of a gray membrane across the throat. Toxin produced by organism interferes with protein synthesis. 0.01 mg will kill a 200-lb man.

Transmission:  Droplet inhalation, direct contact with infected people, sheets, clothing
