The
Department of Music at Schenectady County Community College offers
an array of career training possibilities for the serious musician
in an exciting atmosphere of performance and music scholarship
that is widely recognized both regionally and nationally. Graduates
of SCCC Music degree and certificate programs have transferred
to many of the nation's finest music schools and have succeeded
in careers in all facets of the profession.

Community College is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
The
Empire Jazz Orchestra is a professional jazz ensemble in residence
at Schenectady County Community College. Founded in 1992, the
EJO is dedicated to the performance of quality ensemble music
from all eras of jazz. The orchestra is comprised of many of the
Capital Region's finest professional musicians.
SCCC is also home to The Capital Region Wind Ensemble, the resident
Wind Ensemble. The CRWE was founded in 1994, with the intent of
providing a vehicle for professional wind and percussion players
to perform concert band and wind ensemble literature at a high
level. While the group is comprised of musicians from all walks
of life, the majority of the members are current or retired music
educators, teaching in local school districts throughout the Capital
Region. Brett Wery is Principal Concductor of the CRWE. Mr. Wery
is a professor at SCCC where he was recently awarded the SUNY
Chancellor's Award for excellence in Teaching. Mr. Wery also conducts
the SCCC Wind Ensemble and the University Symphony Orchestra at

The
Department of Music offers the Associate of Science degree in
Performing Arts - Music, designed for transfer to four-year programs
in music education, performance, jazz studies, or theory/composition.
Also offered is the Associate in Applied Science in Music / Business,
designed to prepare students for careers in music marketing, retail,
management and other fields. The Music Certificate program permits
students to develop the skills necessary for success in college-level
music study. Both degree programs require a successful audition.
No audition is necessary for admission to the certificate program.
