The Avanti Woodwind Quintet makes its SCCC Chamber Music Series debut on Wednesday, February 27, 2008. The Avanti is a highly regarded chamber group that formed in the late 1980s. Its members - Christopher Krueger, flute; Michael Sussman, clarinet; Fredric Cohen, oboe; Laura Klock, horn; and Stephen Walt, bassoon—have each earned acclaim as soloists, chamber artists, and symphony principals in the Northeast and beyond. Avanti is in residence at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where its members are professors in the Department of Music and Dance. In addition to performing the standard repertoire for wind quintet, Avanti is committed to presenting newer and lesser-known works and has premiered several pieces. Avanti also works with eminent pianists and other instrumentalists. In an effort to enlarge and enrich the audience for chamber music written for winds, Avanti presents workshops, master classes, and outreach concerts for public school students. |
