2009 - 2010 SEASON CONCERTS

EXCELSIOR TROMBONE ENSEMBLE
Michael Meidenbauer, Lisa Albrecht, Brad Ward and Paul Bellino
Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7:30 p.m.

Michael Meidenbauer, Lisa Albrecht, Brad Ward and Paul Bellino make up this ensemble that has excited audiences worldwide, offering programs that evoke the majestic origin of the trombone in the Renaissance to classical, jazz, pop, and modern idioms. The ensemble has been featured in concert halls, colleges, and sacred spaces across the Northeast, and often performs in collaboration with vocal ensembles and organists.  The Finger Lakes Times praised the ensemble as “one of the premier brass groups in the country…they all play with superb musicianship…(and) are wonderful ambassadors for their instruments and professional musicians in general.” Members of the Excelsior Trombone Ensemble perform on alto, large tenor, small tenor, and bass trombones.
AN EVENING OF SONG
Lucille Beer and Mark Evans are joined by Keith Kibler
Monday, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m.

SCCC faculty members Lucille Beer and Mark Evans are joined by guest artist Keith Kibler for an evening of song cycles and duets by Schubert, Schumann, and Brahms. With Mr. Evans at the piano, Mr. Kibler performs songs from Franz Schubert’s last song cycle Schwanengesang ("Swan Song"), and Ms. Beer sings Robert Schumann’s Frauenliebe und Leben (A Woman's Love and Life). Beer, Kibler, and Evans join forces in Brahms’ Four Duets Op. 28.

Mezzo-soprano Lucille Beer has received critical acclaim for her performances in opera houses and on concert stages around the world. She is widely praised both for her superb musicianship and distinctive timbre, which critics describe as “rare and memorable.” Bass-baritone Keith Kibler is recognized for a career of great versatility. He has sung leading operatic roles internationally as well as the concert repertoire with noted soloists. On the faculty of Williams College, he has appeared with every major orchestral and choral organization in New England.
AARON's HORIZON
Wednesday, Feb.10, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.

The SCCC Chamber Music Series collaborates with Musicians of Ma’alwyck, SCCC’s Artists-in-Residence, in an evening of exciting chamber orchestra works by Copland, Wagner, and McGlaughlin. Copland’s Appalachian Spring is a perennial favorite, and its use of the Shaker theme “Simple Gifts” gives it a unique local tie. It is paired here with Bill McGlaughlin’s Aaron’s Horizons, a work dedicated to the spirit of Copland. McGlaughlin is nationally recognized for his work as host of the radio programs Saint Paul Sunday and Exploring Music. The Siegfried Idyll, which Wagner composed for his wife Cosima to celebrate the birth of their son, rounds out the program. The chamber orchestra will feature several noted guest artists from the Capital Region.
