Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat is Serial Solutions? The web-based technology that allows us to search for materials, especially periodical articles, across different databases is called OpenURL technology. At SCCC and the rest of SUNY, we use an OpenURL application called Serials Solutions. Many of the SCCC databases allow Serials Solutions to link (the link is called "360 Link") through to the full text of an article, if it is available in another of our databases to which we subscribe. If an article is not available in full text to SCCC users, it may be available at other campuses, via the Interlibrary Loan link on the screen. If your source database (the one in which you are searching) is ArticleFirst, there is an 360 link near the top of the bibliographic record display called "External Resources: ILL Request". Click on that link and a new window opens up a services window. There are options to either click through to your article contained in one or more databases, or begin the interlibrary loan process by clicking on the "Go" button following "Interlibrary Loan with ILLiad," or to "Google" your search. If you are using ILLiad for the first time, follow the instructions for creating an ILLiad account. Other source databases which have the 360 link are: All Gale/Infotrac databases, all EBSCO databases, ScienceDirect, and PsychArticles. Lexis Nexis Academic Universe does not support OpenURL technology as a "source," but does as a "target" of a link. |
