What is SCCC's Online Learning Management System (LMS)?
Starting in the Spring 2008, all online courses at SCCC are taught via the ANGEL LMS. ANGEL is also used on campus for hybrid and web-enhanced courses, groups and as a communication tool for instructors and students. In the past, SCCC used the SUNY Learning Network for online courses, from 1998–2007.
What is a "Web-Enhanced, " "Hybrid" or "Blended" course?
If you are teaching a "web–enhanced" course, you use ANGEL or another LMS to post course information and communicate with students, but it is not designated as an online or hybrid course at SCCC. A "hybrid" or "blended" course is listed as such in the college catalogue. A hybrid course at SCCC meants that half of the seat time is in the face –to–face classroom with the rest of the course conducted online via ANGEL. At the current time, SCCC only offers a handful of hybrid courses each semester.
I’m scheduled to teach an online course, how do I get started?
If you are an instructor who has never taught an online course in the past for SCCC, you need to attend training sessions offered through the ITC. For more information, please contact the ITC or the Dean of Continuing Education.
Are instructors paid for teaching a course online?
Instructors who are developing a brand new course, never before taught online at SCCC, will receive a one-time stipend. Please contact the Dean of Continuing Education for more information.
What types of ANGEL LMS training are available to me?
The Instructional Technology Center offers workshop-style training, as well as individual sessions. During Faculty Institute week look for the ANGEL Basics, Advanced ANGEL Techniques and ANGEL gradebook workshops. Workshop offerings vary each semester and contact the ITC for an updated schedule.
How can I set up an individual training session?
Amanda Hagzan, Assistant for Online Learning, will work with you one–on–one to answer your specific questions. To set up an appointment call 518-381-1245, or send an email to hagzanaj@gw.sunysccc.edu.
Does SUNY offer additional training or resources for online instructors?

How do SCCC students get information about online courses?
When a student registers for an online course, they receive a letter in the mail with instructions on how to get started in ANGEL. They can also contact the ANGEL help desk in the Academic Computing Department, or the Assistant for Online Learning. The Department of Continuing Education also provides a Distance Learning Student Website with more information.
How do I, and my students, get help with ANGEL user IDs and passwords?
For ANGEL login and account questions, call the SCCC ANGEL help line at: 518-381-1487
When can students begin to access my online course?
Students have access to your online course on the first day of the semester. Students access the ANGEL student orientation course as soon as they are officially registered at SCCC.
