Musicians of Ma’alwyck present, Sweet Nightingale, a program of songs and instrumental music popular in America in the 1870s, 11:30 a.m., Begley Building, Room 160. Free. This program includes works by Gilbert and Sullivan and American songwriters of the period with Gene Marie Callahan, soprano, Charles F. Schwartz, baritone, Norman Thibodeau, flute, Ann-Marie Barker Schwartz, violin, Petia Kassarova, violoncello, and Sten Isachsen, guitar.

Performance by Maria Zemantauski, Flamenco guitarist, sponsored by the SCCC Spanish Club, Taylor Auditorium, Free.

Bill Buell presents 1912: George Lunn and the Socialist Takeover of Schenectady, 7:00 p.m., Stockade Building, Room 101. Free. A former pastor at the First Reformed Church in the Stockade, George Lunn became the first and only Socialist mayor of Schenectady on January 1, 1912, a year in which the Socialists enjoyed stunning victories at the local and state level all over the country. In his talk, Bill Buell explores the factors responsible for George Lunn’s electoral success and examines the actual accomplishments of the mayor and the Socialists. A reporter for the Daily Gazette, Mr. Buell holds a degree in history from the University at Albany and is the author of Historic Schenectady County: A Bicentennial History.

Flame, 11:30 a.m., Carl B. Taylor Community Auditorium. Free. This inspirational band from upstate New York is made up of 11 people with developmental/physical disabilities, including autism, Down’s syndrome, mental retardation and blindness. People of all ages and backgrounds connect with this special rock band, especially those who have a disability.
