Schenectady County Community College Commencement to Feature Keynote Address by Alumnus, Gaming CEO
George Goldhoff '83, who has been an industry leader at world-famous hospitality establishments in the United States and Canada, will be the keynote speaker during Schenectady County Community College's 43rd Commencement on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at 4 p.m. at Proctors. He will address the Class of 2013, and their families and friends, as students earn A.A., A.S., A.O.S., A.A.S. degrees and certificates in more than 40 academic programs.
"We are looking forward to the May 23rd Commencement exercises and recognizing the excellent graduating class of 2013," said Dr. Quintin Bullock, President of SCCC. "Our keynote speaker and SCCC alumnus illustrates the myriad opportunities and professional achievements the graduating class can aspire to as they enter into the workforce or continue into their respected educational fields of study."
Goldhoff has led thousands of employees at famous establishments including the Rainbow Room in New York City, the Bellagio – MGM Resorts International in Las Vegas, Nev., and now at the largest casino operator in Alberta, Canada. His work as the General Manager of the Rainbow Room earned the famed private club in Rockefeller Center a three-star rating by The New York Times in the mid-1990s. While he was the Executive Director of Food and Beverage at the Bellagio from 1998 to 2001, the Bellagio achieved the first AAA Five-Diamond award for a casino-hotel. And following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, Goldhoff coordinated the food and beverage redesign and reconstruction of the $700M resort restoration while Vice President of Food and Beverage at the Beau Rivage - MGM Resorts International in Biloxi, Miss. Goldhoff is now the President and CEO of Pure Canadian Gaming, which has casinos throughout Canada and generates approximately $100M in revenue.
"George's background is a perfect example of where SCCC can take you," said Denise Murphy McGraw, Chairwoman of the SCCC Board of Trustees. "Our School of Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism is designed to prepare students for the industry's future and we will see further development continue in the gaming industry as SCCC launches a new Casino and Gaming Management program this fall."
Goldhoff has appeared on CNN Headline News and has been published in Global Gaming Business, Casino Executive Magazine and Cornell Quarterly. He has shared his expertise with students and faculty alike during appearances at colleges across the country including the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the University of Southern Mississippi, Columbia University and the University of Memphis.
After graduating from SCCC, he earned his bachelor's degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Travel Administration from the University of Massachusetts, followed by an M.B.A. in Finance and Management from Columbia University.
