SCCC Athletic Department Names
Basketball Player and Bowler
2013 Female/Male Athletes of the Year
Schenectady County Community College recently announced the College's 2013 Female and Male Athletes of the Year.
Tierney McGlynn, a second-year basketball player and Human Services/Health Studies major, was named the Schenectady County Community College Female Athlete of the Year. McGlynn, a point guard and graduate of Watervliet High School, led the SCCC Women's Basketball Team to a Region III playoff birth. During the season, she led the Royals in every statistical category: scoring, rebounds, steals and assists. She was also Co-Captain of the team for the 2012-2013 season. Tierney was named to the Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference All-Conference Team.
Tyler Mochrie, a first-year bowler and Liberal Arts: Humanities and Social Sciences/Business Administration major, was named the SCCC Male Athlete of the Year. Mochrie, a graduate of Colonie High School, led the SCCC Men's Bowling Team to the NJCAA Men's Bowling National Championship this spring, the first national championship for an SCCC athletic team. He was the Singles Champion in the event as well as coming in second in the all-events category. He had a 198.8 average. Mochrie was named a first-team NJCAA All-American.
Also, seven SCCC student-athletes were named to the 2013 Academic All-Region Team. To qualify, students must have completed 45 semester hours with a minimum grade point average of 3.50. They are: Brittany Barkley - Women's Bowling; Kayla Marois - Women's Bowling; Jeff Karabin - Men's Bowling; Tyler Mochrie - Men's Bowling; Mike Dougherty - Men's Baseball; Tom Verret - Men's Baseball; and Sam Clement - Men's Basketball.
