SCCC Welcomes New Trustees

Schenectady County Community College is pleased to announce that three individuals have joined the SCCC Board of Trustees, the governing body of the College.

Dr. Alton Brisport was appointed by Schenectady County for a term from June 11, 2014, to June 30, 2015.

Dr. Brisport is a practicing Certified Hand Therapist and Occupational Therapist, employed by Albany Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He has 26 years of experience practicing Occupational Therapy. His clinical practice includes therapeutic intervention of varying diagnostic complications pertaining to the upper extremities. In addition, Dr. Brisport was an Adjunct at SCCC teaching Human Biology from 2002 to 2012.

His aspiration to pursue a health career was influenced by interests in life and health sciences. During undergraduate studies, he acquired greater comprehension, relative to the significance of functional recovery, supporting the human need to resume post-trauma or illness functional status. This awareness influenced pursuing a career in Occupational Therapy, with specialization in Hand Therapy.

Dr. Brisport earned his Bachelor's degree in Physical Education form Herbert H. Lehman College, Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from New York University and Doctor of Occupational Therapy from the University of Saint Augustine. He also completed a post-graduate specialty Certification in Hand and Upper Quarter Rehabilitation from MCP Hahnemann University. He earned his New York State Occupational Therapy license in 1988 and National Board Hand Therapy Certification in 2002.

He and his wife Maxine Brisport, a School Psychologist, have two children, Colleen and Andrew.

The Rev. Dr. William Levering was appointed by Schenectady County for a term from June 14, 2014, to June 30, 2020.

Dr. Levering is Senior Pastor at First Reformed Church in Schenectady, a position he has held since 2007. He also teaches preaching at the Capital Region Theological Center.

Prior to his work at First Reformed Church, Dr. Levering was a pastor at congregations in and around Philadelphia. He has also taught speech full-time at Princeton Seminary, and as an Adjunct in communication studies at Rutgers University, Temple University, SUNY Binghamton and the College of New Jersey.

While in high school, Dr. Levering attended the nation's first public community college, Joliet Junior College in Illinois, and sees his service on the SCCC Board of Trustees as the fruition of that experience. Dr. Levering earned his B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Illinois, followed by his M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary and his Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Communication from Temple University.

He is Acting President of the New York State Council of Churches, Vice President of the New York State Council of Churches and President of the Board of Trustees of the Albany Presbytery, Presbyterian Church (USA). Dr. Levering is also on the Board of Trustees for the Mohawk Club and the Schenectady County Public Library, and has previously served on local and national boards for Planned Parenthood. In addition, Dr. Levering is active in the Boy Scouts, starting troops in Schenectady and Philadelphia.

He has been recognized for his work with several awards, including the Jewish Community Relations Council of Cherry Hill New Jersey Community Service Award; the Religious Leadership Award from the Northwest Interfaith Movement in Philadelphia; and awards from Planned Parenthood chapters in South Central New York and Mohawk-Hudson. He is also an honorary life member of two academic professional associations.

He and his wife, the Rev. Abigail Norton-Levering, have two children, Ryan and Kimery.

Christopher Suzanne, a Supply Chain Management and Business Administration major, was elected in Spring 2014 as the Student Trustee by the SCCC student body. His one-year term began on July 1, 2014.

He is an eight-year veteran of the United States Army. As an enlisted service member, Christopher provided logistical support to the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. After reaching the rank of Sergeant, he was honorably discharged from the Army to pursue a career abroad.

Christopher has completed certificate programs in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), Advanced Grammar and Teaching Business English. This training led to him living and working as a Foreign English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher at The New Dynamic Institute of Wuhan and as an ESL tutor at Wuhan University. Often tutoring ESL students employed by large international companies, Christopher learned the basics of international trade and the importance of a steady supply chain. This led to his interest in gaining a formal education in international business markets and supply chains.

A resident of Niskayuna, Christopher graduated from Niskayuna High School in 2004. Prior to becoming the Student Trustee, Christopher was a two-term Senior Senator in SCCC's Student Government Association.

Also, the College is pleased to announce that Renee Bradley, Secretary of the Board of Trustees, was reappointed by Schenectady County for a term through June 30, 2018. Renee, who was first appointed to the Board in July 2004, is a Children and Family Services Specialist with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
