Students in First SCCC Recording

Institute Will Learn Complete Recording

Process Using Premiere Equipment

This summer, Schenectady County Community College will offer the first SCCC Audio Recording Institute from Monday, July 22, through Friday, Aug. 2. Students will participate in hands-on sessions using state-of-the-art equipment in the College's new Vianna-Brignola Recording Studio, part of the new $3.9M SCCC School of Music.

Students in the two-week institute will learn the basics of Pro Tools audio recording software, participate in live recording sessions with a variety of musicians and mix and master a final recording project. The Institute is intended to be a total immersion in the processes of professional audio recording.

The Institute will be taught by renowned producer/recording engineer, guitarist and SCCC Music Faculty member Sten Isachsen. As owner of North Albany Studios and a performance producer/recording engineer at Bender Studios, Isachsen has produced and engineered for recordings by Brian Patneaude, the Empire Jazz Orchestra and other notable musicians. He frequently gives recitals and professional performances. Isachsen has served as a soloist with the Ithaca College String Quartet and University at Albany Orchestra, is a current member of the string trio Musicians of Ma'alwyck, the guitarist for Albany-based singer Motherjudge, a touring artist with Jim Gaudet and the Railroad Boys and a session musician for artists in Nashville, as well as in the Capital Region. He holds an M.M. and B.M.A. from Ithaca College and an A.S. from SCCC.

Dr. William Meckley, Dean of the SCCC School of Music, noted that students will be involved in an entire recording project. "The SCCC School of Music Audio Institute will provide participants with an intense experience in a top-level studio, developing a complete recording project while working with a respected industry professional," he said. "The SCCC School of Music is proud to offer this unique and exciting opportunity to our community."

The SCCC Audio Recording Institute is open to all students and adults. Fee is $200. Enrollment is limited to the first 15 applicants. For information, please call the SCCC School of Music at 381-1231, ext. 3.
