Full-time position(s) that SCCC anticipates filling will be listed below:


Full-time Instructor/Assistant Professor position in Computer Science beginning Fall 2008. Responsible for teaching a full-time course load, academic advisement, course development, ability to collaborate across disciplinary lines and other duties as assigned. Experience with a diverse population preferred and a strong commitment to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent, with one year of college-level teaching experience, preferably in a community college setting. Primary teaching responsibility will include C++, VB, Java, and Data Structures with additional courses selected from MS Office Applications. Some familiarity in Computer Networking & Systems preferred (Routing and Switching and Systems Administration). The following certifications are desired but not required: Java, A+, Server+, Security+, Network+, and CCNA.
Salary Range: $36,000 - $40,000 with generous fringe benefits.

SCCC MINORITY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM FOR THE
DEVELOPMENT OF COLLEGE FACULTY

2007-2008

The purpose of this program is to provide opportunity and access to career exploration in a post-secondary setting for traditionally under-represented individuals (African America, Latino/Hispanic, Native American Indian, and Asian/Pacific Island). The program is intended for students currently enrolled in a regional graduate program interested in careers in community colleges or individuals seeking an opportunity for a career change.

Participants will receive:
  • an opportunity to network with other professionals in higher education
  • an opportunity to gain experience in teaching
  • an opportunity to broaden experiences beyond their specific discipline
  • a valuable experience in a community college environment
  • an opportunity to apply for SCCC vacancies
  • a stipend provided by SCCC

PROGRAM OUTLINE - First Semester (1/2 time): 20 hours per week for 16 weeks - $8,250

With supervisor guidance and approval, arrange a regular schedule of semester-long activities designed to familiarize yourself with the community college setting. Typically, these activities will include observation, assistance and participation in the Advisement Center, Learning Center, Math Lab, TRIO Program, and/or other related activities.

Second Semester: (1/2 time): 16 weeks - $8,250

Four (4) to eight (8) hours/week: Teach one to two courses in approved discipline day and/or evening; Nine (9) to twelve (12) hours/week: Work in one or more of the service areas identified above.

If approved: Third and Fourth Semesters: - $8,500 each semester (maximum of four (4) semesters for an internship). Each semester will be modeled after the second semester, depending upon availability of appropriate courses for instruction.

The above semester schedules are designed to provide and opportunity for interns to gain an appreciation of the multiplicity of issues involved in working in a community college environment.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Schenectady County Community College’s institutional goals include a diverse community of students, administrators, faculty, and staff where race, ethnicity, gender and other diversity issues are routinely addressed as a part of its larger mission.

Recruitment for these positions will reflect a collaborative effort between SCCC and universities and colleges in the region. Recruitment will take place in a timely manner to facilitate potential teaching assignments (e.g. May recruitment for Fall).

Supervision of intern assignments will be provided by the appropriate academic chair/director in conjunction with the College’s Coordinator of Personnel Services/Affirmative Action Officer.

Evaluation of interns will be conducted by the appropriate supervisor at the end of each semester with input solicited from all appropriate personnel.

All candidates interested in applying for a minority internship position at SCCC will be required to submit a cover letter describing future academic career plans, a resume, reference contacts, and a College application.

Applications will be reviewed by a committee selected from the Divisions of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs and by the Coordinator of Personnel Services/AAO. Candidates will be notified in writing of their acceptance.

Qualifications may vary depending upon the type of internship; however, it is assumed that the candidate has a Master’s degree and is either enrolled in a Doctoral program or is seeking a career change.

Candidates selected for this program will be matched with a mentor closely tied to their specific discipline.

Successful candidates will need to submit the following documentation to the Coordinator of Personnel Services/AAO: 1) official transcripts 2) non-US residents will need to provide proof of appropriate visa documentation or evidence of permanent residency.

Preference for internships will be provided according to available teaching assignments and will be given to (though not limited to) the following academic areas: Business Communications, Composition, Criminal Justice, Developmental Studies, Librarianship, Management/Business, Mathematics, Music and Social Science.
