Principles for Professional Conduct

The Career & Employment Services office (CES) collaborates with employers and alumni to sponsor programs and services that will professionally enrich students’ career and leadership development. These include: Career Expos, On-campus Interviews, On-line Employment & Outreach Services, Internships, Company Conversations Luncheons, Informational Interviews, Campus Panel Presentations and Academic Club Speakers, and the Career Service Advisory Committee. Participation in these programs and services is a privilege and mandates that students exercise good judgment, mature behavior, and professional ethics. Schenectady County Community College holds its students to the highest standards as outlined below:

  • Only current students, alumni, faculty or staff from Schenectady County Community College and those organizations seeking to hire or provide guidance to the SCCC community are eligible to use this system. Those found otherwise will be removed.
  • Students and alumni are expected to represent themselves to the CES office and potential employers honestly and accurately on registration records, resumes, application materials, and during interviews or appointments. Failure to do so will result in loss of privileges.
  • It’s the users’ responsibility to keep their data up to date and send any documents (ie, resume) to perspective employers, unless they accept entry into resume books.
  • Candidates should apply for posted jobs only when genuinely considering the position for which the organization is recruiting.
  • If a scheduled appointment is made with the CES office or with an employer, the appointment must be kept. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please contact the appropriate person at least 24 hours in advance.
  • When an organization extends an offer of employment to the candidate, he or she is expected to mutually agree upon the deadline for making the decision. If extenuating circumstances occur, the employer should be contacted immediately to request a reasonable extension.
  • A job offer is to be very carefully considered. Candidates who use our services are asked to notify the CES office upon their acceptance of a position and then be expected to withdraw from all other interviews or offers.
Students engaged in employment or experential learning under the auspices of the College, such as the NYS Assembly/Senate Internship Program, Kentucky Derby, Federal Workforce Recruitment Program, internships, field practicums, and volunteer programs are expected to behave in a respectful and professional manner, and they are bound by the rights and responsibilities outlined in the College Handbook.

Please check the appropriate box in the EASE system to verify that you read and agree with the Principles for Professional Conduct as outlined above.
