As a student or an alumnus of
SCCC, you have a dedicated staff of professionals working to help you
better understand the type of career you wish to pursue and to introduce
you to a variety of opportunities that await you depending on your own
interests, motivations, skills and time available. The following
categories are means by which our office attempts to teach and support
students and alumni to become successful at creating and finding career

Job Search Assistance through
Personal Appointments:
We teach students to develop a targeted
job search including employer/industry research, targeting a resume and
cover letter, effectively communicating during an interview, ensuring appropriate
follow-up, expanding their job search networks and organizing a successful
job search process.
Academic Interaction:
We participate in classroom and
club presentations related to employment trends and job search skills.
Work with academic clubs to generate work related experiences and exposure
to careers
Coordinate and advertise non-credit
internship opportunities such as the Federal Internship Program, Senate
& Assembly Internships, and internships offered throughout the year
by local and regional employers.
Employment Trends Information
using Resource Center:
We teach students how to research
information using computer resources, books and printed materials, and
through personal networking to better understand industry and occupational
projections, local and regional demands, salary ranges, job descriptions,
certification requirements, and marketable skills related to targeted occupations.
Developing Contacts:
Our office maintains a database
with over 2000 business contacts that can be used to search for potential
opportunities and personal referrals. Coordinate and advertise Capital
Region employment/career fairs. Post jobs, civil service exams, internships
and career events on a daily basis on our JOBLine computer system and office
homepage starting in the fall.
On-Campus Recruiting:
We schedule numerous businesses
for on-campus promotions and interview sessions.
Coordinate Targeted Recruitment
Events for academic departments.
Maintain a Resume Referral Service
which matches candidates to employer job orders.
We have helped students gain opportunities
with the Pentagon; The Senate and Assembly; General Electric, Lockheed
Martin and IBM, Walt Disney World; MGM Grand Hotel; Capital Region Law
Firms, Corporations, Small Businesses, Human Service Agencies, Civil Service,
Hotels & Restaurants, and so much more.
