Returning Adult Students

Welcome to SCCC! This is an exciting time for you as you begin or come back to finish your college degree. We hope that we can help you take advantage of all the wonderful opportunities and services that SCCC offers.

With the average age of our students being about 27 for full-time and 33 for
part-time, Returning Adult Students will find they are not alone at SCCC. We understand that many returning adults also have other daytime commitments so, in addition to the services that are offered to all students, we do try to make things somewhat convenient for you by offering an extensive evening schedule, Saturday and on-line classes, as well as evening hours in many offices, including the Advising Center and Financial Aid, to fit your busy schedule.

Need childcare while you’re taking classes?  The YWCA Children’s Center and The Gateway Montessori program offer on campus childcare options and the Capital District Child Care Coordinating Council offers additional resources to help you choose the childcare that’s right for you.

Want to be better prepared for the ever changing workforce when you complete your degree or certificate? Career and Transfer Services are available online and in the Opportunity Zone (Elston Hall, Room 221- I) on a walk in basis from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. daily or by appointment. Services include career advisement and assessment, resume and cover letter writing, job search and interview skills, basic computer skills and professional communications, transfer advising and specialized workshops.

Looking for connections? The RestartClub offers you a unique on-line support network accessed through Facebook and is made up of a diverse group of members that vary in age, marital status, parenthood, GPA, majors and work experience. Membership gives you the opportunity to share advice and information, and learn about SCCC resources and events, as well as connect with other students for their support, encouragement or guidance to help you navigate your way through college. Examples of topics covered include advice about courses, information on important dates and tips for success from experienced SCCC students.
