Returning Adult Students are very welcome at SCCC. The average age of our students is about 27 and the average age of our part-time students is 33. In addition to all of the services that are offered to all students we do try to make things somewhat convenient for our returning adult students. In addition to courses during the day, we offer an extensive evening schedule, Saturday and on-line classes. Many of our campus offices offer evening hours during most of the year to fit your busy schedule.
We offer a unique on-line club called Restart for our returning adult students. Our club members are diverse in age, marital status, parenthood, gpa, majors and work experiences. The Restart Club offers you an online support network accessed through Yahoo Groups. The club offers a great way to share advice/information and learn about SCCC resources and events. The online format allows you an easy way to contact other students for their support, encouragement or guidance to help you navigate your way through college. Examples of topics covered include advice about courses, information on important dates (example scholarship opportunities and deadline dates) and tips for success from experienced SCCC students. To join this club please contact the club advisor, Margaret Anne Williams at 381-1337 or williama@gw.sunysccc.edu
Advising services for full-time students are available through an assigned faculty advisor. Part-time students can utilize the Advisement Center/Student Development Office in Elston room 223. The Student Development Office also provides career counseling and personal counseling services. For more intensive information on the different services that are offered, please see the separate sections in this guide.
