Police Officer Candidate Prep (POCP) I: Civil Service Exam Prep

This course is 10 weeks.

This training is for Police Officer Candidates preparing for the Civil Service Exam in the hiring process to become Police Officers. Candidates who are planning to take the Police Officer exam in the next three months would benefit from 10 weeks of exam preparation leading up to the exam date.

Police Officer Candidate Prep II: PAT, Background, Interview Prep and Security Guard training

This course is 10 weeks.

This training is designed for Police Officer Candidates who have taken the Civil Service Exam and are preparing for next steps in the process including the Physical Abilities Test (PAT), background check and interview process. You will also receive training to be a licensed Security Guard in NYS. This 10 week class can help remove barriers and lead to greater success in navigating the process of being hired as a Police Officer in your community.

POCP II Course Outline

  • Physical Abilities Test Prep
    • Evaluation of skills: sit ups, push ups, running
    • Performance plan to meet PAT testing standards and nutrition information for optimal fitness
  • Background History Review
  • Interview Prep
  • 8 Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course for Security Guards

We have contracted with instructors who are experts in preparing candidates for success on the various aspects of this application process. They have years of success in supporting candidates as they pursue the goal of becoming police officers in their local communities.

This training was developed with the support of the City of Schenectady and is endorsed by the Schenectady Police Department.

Upcoming Classes

Classes take place in Center City - 433A State Street, Schenectady

Students will be required to follow all COVID-19 protocols in place when the class is in session according to SUNY Schenectady guidelines.
