2/02/2023 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
School of Music, Room 215
Celebrate Black History with this conversation facilitated by Professor David Gleason
with special guest, Garland Nelson, a local musician. Free and open to the public.

Join Professor David Gleason (Adjunct Instructor of Ethnomusicology) with special
guest, Garland Nelson, a local musician to discuss the evolution of the Black vocal
tradition. Nelson's thesis is that "without the core of the Black American musical
tradition, American music, as we know it, would not exist." This engaging conversation
will encourage audience participation and include sing along materials and audio and
visual examples.
