Borrowing Policies

Library card

Your SCCC ID card is your library card.  ID cards may be obtained at the college store.

You are financially responsible for all items borrowed with your ID card.  Do not lend your ID card to anyone. Report lost ID cards to the circulation desk immediately.

Student Borrowing Privileges

The following items are available for in-library use only.

Library materials are borrowed and returned at the circulation desk. You may also renew items, pay replacement costs of lost materials and pick up Interlibrary Loan materials at the circulation desk.
Removal of books and other materials from the College library through other than use of the normal checkout procedure is a violation of the Student Code of Conduct.  [Library users] with such materials in their possession will be considered as knowingly participating in the use of stolen materials. (SCCC Student Code, sec. B.12)

Textbooks and other required course texts may not be borrowed through Interlibrary Loan.

Community & SUNY Borrowing Privileges

Begley Library issues library cards to Empire State College students; SUNY students, faculty and staff upon presentation of their current, valid SUNY college ID; and honors current Direct Access Program cards issued by the home libraries of program participants.  Visit or call the circulation desk at 381-1235 for more information.

Overdue Materials

The library will send an overdue notice as a courtesy, but patrons are responsible for returning materials by the due date whether or not they receive a written notice.
When materials are overdue, further borrowing privileges may be suspended.  When materials are lost or damaged, a replacement cost plus a processing fee will be charged.  Grades and transcripts will be withheld until materials are returned and/or paid for.  Pre-registration for future courses may be delayed as well.

Borrowing from other libraries

SCCC students, faculty and staff may borrow materials from other libraries worldwide using ILLiad, the college’s online interlibrary loan system.  You can access ILLiad directly from most of the library’s databases, the SUNYConnect catalog, and WorldCat.  Once you have used one of these research tools to identify the item you would like to borrow, follow the “Request Item” or “Check for Full Text”  links to place your request with ILLiad.  First-time users need to create an ILLiad account and set up a username and password.  To view a tutorial on setting up an account, click here.Certain items, such as journal articles, may be delivered to your e-mail account, reducing the need for you to visit the library.  [for more information about ILLiad]
