Art Concentration

Liberal Arts:
Humanities and Social Sciences A.A.
Art Concentration

Art student working on a drawing. The Liberal Arts: Humanities and Social Sciences Art Concentration seeks not only to challenge students who have specific visual-arts skills to express their own sense of the world, but also to appreciate others’ expressions of their own time and place. To this end, students will take an array of liberal arts and art history courses, as well as more general communication courses and courses in the business of art. Through these, we will expect them to learn how to communicate their vision and to market their skills.

The program aims to develop connections with local art and civic organizations in order to foster creative place-making opportunities and to forge productive partnerships between the college and its surrounding communities. Students will have the opportunity to intern with community arts organizations and to engage in service learning, as well as to display and curate art that has been created by their fellow students, their professors, and local artists. The program will also pursue collaboration with local artists and civic organizations to create and install public art that speaks to all dimensions of our communities.

The concentration provides students with a clear transfer path to a four-year degree if that is the path they wish to pursue. The program aligns well with SUNY’s transfer path in the visual arts, enabling students to transfer to one of SUNY’s stellar art programs.
