Music certificate
This program is intended for those who wish to pursue development as a trained music professional. Students are prepared for employment as singers, instrumental musicians, or private and group music lesson instructors. Students receive training for work in music retail, and other entry level positions in the music industry. This program can also serve as a “stepping-stone” for those wishing to pursue an A.A.S. or A.S. degree in a related music field.
No audition is required for entry into the Music Certificate program.
The Music Certificate program prepares graduates to develop:
Goal I: Musicianship through the study of a major instrument or voice
- Develop an applied music foundation on voice or an instrument
- Develop a plan for future study leading to realistic career goals
- Develop a foundation for ensemble performance
Goal II: Basic theoretical and analytical musical skills
- Develop a foundation in ear training, sight singing, and sight reading
- Develop basic music theoretical competencies
- Develop a foundation in keyboard skills
Goal III: Basic awareness of the evolution of western music
- Understand the styles of different musical eras and their relationships to their broader cultures
Goal IV: A variety of basic business skills applicable to the music industry
- Develop competencies with Excel
